Look no further than YoungShip, the organization for young professionals in shipping, to see the next generation taking its part in shaping the future of the industry. With networking and presentations on relevant topics as its main tools, YoungShip is heavily involved in Nor-Shipping 2011.
Each day of the event week sees an after-work activity organized by the group. This includes the official Nor-Shipping 2011 closing party on Thursday, May 26. Some of the events are open to all and others are restricted to members. See www.youngship.com for more details.
Each installment of the YoungShip Nor-Shipping week program will kick off at Nor-Shipping Campus, the outdoor event that will profile the Norwegian maritime industry to the general public – and to students considering it as a career path in particular. With the exception of the closing party, all YoungShip Nor-Shipping events will conclude at the nearby Åpen Bar at Aker Brygge.
YoungShip Chair Birgit Liodden explains that the organization is not simply a networking one. “Being able to give our input about the direction of the industry is important for YoungShip – just as it is important for the younger generation to have a voice,” she says. “One of the ways we accomplish this is by having a member as a representative to the Nor-Shipping Campus steering group.”
During Nor-Shipping 2009, YoungShip hosted 1,500 persons throughout the week at its events. Liodden expects the number to be even higher this year.
