Twitter feed taken over by crazy racist web trolls :(

My original tweet…

Yesterday I shared a Twitter update about the tragic drowning of at least 34 refugees off the coast of Turkey. Among them were young children and a woman 6 months pregnant. I felt so sad, but when I opened Twitter this afternoon, I became even sadder, and completely shocked. It was picked up by some American racists with a complete lack of humanity and a hatred that I cannot relate to.

I don’t know if these guys were Tea Party members or just sharing the mindset and views of Ku Klux Klan. All were among Donald Trump’s supporters, as I could see from their feeds. They applauded the drownings, and made statements like “Bomb the boats, feed the fish” and “Excellent News! That’s fewer rapers, grifters and jihadists entering Europe”. It continued; “Sink the boats!” – “Finally news to celebrate!” One of them asked about my race. Finally, another one concluded that “there’s no surprise Norway’s broken, due to stupid shameless cunts like you”. (Speaking of people and cultures who lack respect for women..)

These people are all American, and call themselves Christians. Does that mean I will judge all American Christians based on this bunch of loonatics (pro-white extremists)? Of course not!

Just as none of us should judge muslims, migrants or refugees as a Group based on the Cologne square incidents.

Please, choose humanity over fear and anger. The world needs it. Each of us needs it.

Birgit

  1. Sad Birgit. I have to sometimes ask myself what experiences these trolls have had to be able to express so much hate and have so little compassion for others. Let’s hope that voices like yours continue to drown theirs out. That our children inherit a world filled with compassion and not one of hate and fear.

    • Couldn’t agree more with you on that Stacey! We’ll just have to do our best raising our kids in a way that opens them up to be curious and embrace diversity and differences. Rather than see it as threaths.. 🙂
